back to basics

Sometimes you over-think things. God knows I do.

New job, plenty of stress, can make it hard to relax in the evening. Drinking every night as a remedy may be relaxing but not so good for the slumber.

Then there is training for a marathon, getting up early to wake up when by nature mornings are evil. Oh, and if you drink to go to sleep it gets even harder to wake up as the quality of rest declines.

Running suffers; stamina suffers, what is rockstar to do?

Gee, stop trying too hard to fit a square peg into a round hole. Accept the things I cannot change, have the courage to change what I can, and the wisdom to know the difference.

In other words, go to the gym AFTER work. Back to late nights and late mornings. Physical activity to shake off the stress, endorphins to give back the happy edge. Workout plan back on track, sleep back to a deep deep slumber.

Step one in re-motivation and life back in motion again.

Now if I could just stop working so goddamn late all the time I’d be set…

you've got it a bit easier than me. you live and work in the city. i have a hard time waking up in the morning, and a hard time going to the gym by the time i get home from work. i'm usually either too tired or starving by the time i get home. any advice?

Easy schmeezy, she has it right. What, you commute a whole half hour more than me? I work to seven every night at least. So either one of us makes the gym at the same time.

It just means we have to commit to a detour several times a week, whether before or after work.

FYI, I bring my gym clothes to work and then go to the gym before going home. The detour home would drain the motivation.

Yeah, the commuting thing isn't really an excuse...I used to commute from Islip, Long Island but still went to the gym or played softball...i joined a gym by work and it was way easier to go right from work so i didn't have to worry about a 1 1/2 hour train ride to tire me out BEFORE hitting that eliptical! It just takes determination, and you'll get there when you're ready!
