need a little help

It was a really hard lesson to learn, but no one takes advice. Even if they seem like they listen a little bit. Nada.

But that's okay. Everyone has a life path to follow, and important lessons most often need to be paid for. Knowledge sticks a little better if you earn it. For whatever reason things that are just handed to us seem worthless, and god knows advice comes damn cheap.

So what do you do when your friend is in an abusive relationship? How many times do you support them when they cry on your shoulder, only to have them run back into the arms of their abuser? Only a week ago they were nursing their wounds, and now they are looking for any glimpse of hope to forgive. I'd say forget, but that doesn't seem to be a problem at all.

I don't know what to do. We all want to protect the ones we care about. When you see a friend in pain don't you feel that pain as well?

Do any of you have experience with this kind of thing? How do you forgive your friend for staying?

Like I said, I already learned people don't listen. But how can I learn to stay and have to watch?

you learn to stay and watch because that is what you need to do for your friend. it is not about you, it is about them. part of being a friend is caring for them, and loving them, regardless of what you believe their faults are. and if you can't do that for them, then you need to let them know that they can longer rely on you as a friend that will be there for them when they need you for whatever the reason may be.

Whoa - someone feels deserted.

I'm not going anywhere, just venting because it is hard to see a friend suffer.

"Victim" here. I appreciate Anon-1's compassion, but I appreciate your candor more.

You know I'm not quite ready to break it off yet, although I am now taking baby steps in the right direction. That's all I can commit to right now...

BUT I made a commitment to our friendship first and since this is making you uncomfortable I'll no longer bring it up.

Yes Anon-1, a good friend is there for you no matter what...but a great friend is someone who you rely on to communicate their feelings to you, good or bad.

Because really, if Rockstar can't tell me how she feels, aren't I the shitty friend?

And for the record, I not only heard everything you said, but deeply considered it. Always have, always will. So there ya fucker! ;)
